Conditions in Gaza

The United Nations has suspended its aid to Gaza after a relief worker was killed.  The Red Cross reported finding four emaciated children next to the dead bodies of their parents.  The Red Cross says that "the Israeli military failed to meet its obligation under international humanitarian law to care for and evacuate the wounded."  Gaza is a "nightmarish landscape of deprivation."  Many of its inhabitants have been without food and water for days.  The death toll has mounted to seven hundred and fifty and about forty percent are women and children.  Approximately twenty thousand people have been displaced due to the fighting.  In fact, the fighting is making humanitarian aid nearly impossible.  Members of the Security Council voted Thursday night to approve a resolution for a cease-fire.  Some Western Ambassadors "acknowledged a long history of United Nations resolutions that led nowhere."  There will be a three-hour daily pause in fighting but many claim that is not sufficient to get aid to the Palestinians.
